


LOW KICK CAMP
LEVEL TESTING GUIDE


REQUIREMENTS FOR LEVEL 1 TESTING
* IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR TESTING STUDENT MUST TRAIN FOR A MINIMUM OF 1 YEAR OR BE CLEARED BY THE COACHES UPON EVALUATION OF TECHNIQUE AND ATTITUDE.
* PARTICIPANTS WILL BE GIVEN A CHANCE TO MAKE-UP OR RETEST IN TWO WEEKS IF TESTING IS MISSED DUE TO INJURY OR STUDENT DOES NOT PASS INITIAL TESTING.
(Every participant will look slightly different because of size, shape and physical ability but good technique is expected across the board.)
1. Must have a minimum of 1 year of training at Low Kick camp or prior “Muay Thai” training from another gym.
2. Must know all punch combinations with GOOD technique. (ie: No hands dropping. Punches returning to guard. Shoulders rotating. Elbows in while punching. Punches turning over at the end)
3. Must be able to hold mitts and pads properly. (ie: Mitts/Pads level with partners head. Slightly tapping back with mitts/pads. Holding with elbows in. Holding for hooking punches at the center of your nose.
4. Must be able to hold proper pads for knees and kicks. (ie: Pads for knees must have one arm in front and the other on top to support. Pads for kicks must be held at an Apex or small triangle at left or right shoulder.)
5. Must be able to throw knees properly. (ie: Heel tucked. On your toes. Hip pointed. Opposite shoulder pulled back. Able to land properly.
6. Must be able to throw kicks properly:
(low kick)- hopping 45 degrees out. Rotating shoulder downward. Not leaning over. Guarding hand up with elbow in.)
(Teep)- Standing leg locked straight. Knee lifted. Kick returning with knee lifted.)
(body kick)- Proper switch or step at 45 degrees. Standing leg straight. Lifted onto toes. Slight pivot on foot. Shoulder rotated. Swinging arm down. Kicking leg swinging up at 45 degrees. Proper landing after kick back to guard.)
7. Must be able to use ALL kick defenses with GOOD technique during a pad round.
8. Must be able to show creativity during TAG rounds at a high pace.
9. Must be able to show a basic understanding of Clinch. (ie: Arm control, 3 arm series, turning partner, on toes, pummeling and good utilization of knees.)
10. Good work ethic, attitude and ability to help others.
11. Level 1 students will periodically stay for 7:30pm class to help with the B-Program.
LEVEL 1 Testing Layout (5 rounds)
Round 1- Holding Pads for a coach.
Round 2- Hitting Mitts with a coach.
Round 3- Hitting Pads with a coach.
Round 4- Tag with a coach at high volume.
Round 5- Clinch with a coach. (30 knees must be thrown in this round.)
